Help Us Be There

Help us be there for more older people this Christmas.

Christmas time is an especially lonely time for many older people in Scotland. Last year, 100,000 older people said they feel more isolated at Christmas than any other time of the year. They have no one to talk to, no one to decorate for, and no one to share a Christmas dinner with.

You cope, because you have to. But the loneliness still gets me.

Hazel, 69

Hazel, a 69-year-old from Dumbarton, who lost her family and partner, finds Christmas especially challenging. She shares that she has no one to buy presents for and no reason to decorate, making Christmas day a day of loneliness.

Sometimes I sing along to the radio to cheer myself up but I am always relieved when the day is over.

With its friendship call service, Age Scotland helps older people like Hazel cope with loneliness in this challenging time of year. We offer a friendly chat and an understanding, listening ear.

Donate to Age Scotland today to help us break the silence for more older people across Scotland this Christmas.
