Help Us Be There When No One Else Is

For many older people, Christmas Day is the most lonely day of the year.

Last year, 150,000 older people reported that they ended up having dinner and watching TV on their own on Christmas Day. One of them is Hazel, 69, from Dumbarton, who doesn't even have Christmas dinner, just gets herself a meal for one. She even avoids watching anything Christmassy on TV because it brings up painful feelings.

Age Scotland provides friendship calls for older people like Hazel, so they are a little less lonely on Christmas Day.

The Age Scotland friendship calls have lifted me up so much... I get to be myself and just talk. I can be cheery or if I’m feeling a bit down, I can say that too. It is just wonderful.
