No older person should be alone on Christmas

Donate Now

This Christmas, many older people in Scotland will be completely alone.

No one deserves to feel alone at Christmas, but plenty over-65s don't see or speak to anyone on Christmas Day. In fact, almost 140,000 over-65s say that Christmas Day is the hardest day of the year for them.

Age Scotland provides friendship calls on Christmas Day, to help break the silence and alleviate the loneliness for those with no one else to turn to.

Two people who receive Christmas calls are Alex, 73 from Motherwell, and Hazel, 77 from Dumbarton. Neither have family or friends to spend the day with, so they sit in silence with only the TV for company.

don’t have a Christmas dinner. I get myself a meal for one. Sometimes I sing along to the radio to cheer myself up but I am always relieved when the day is over.

Donate to Age Scotland today to help us break the silence for more older people across Scotland this Christmas.
