Support Age Scotland in tackling loneliness

Donate Now

You may have heard about Alex. He's one of over 100,000 older people who suffer from chronic loneliness in Scotland. There could be someone like Alex living on your street.

Alex, 72, lives alone in Motherwell. After working abroad for most of his life, he found himself isolated upon returning to his hometown.

I don't have any friends or family around now. The reality is that so many people fall away from your life as you get older. Before you know it, you’re on your own.

Alex now receives weekly calls from our friendship team here at Age Scotland, and he opened up to us about his life and the impact our calls have had on him.

Having someone to talk to reduces my anxiety about being lonely. It has been absolutely wonderful and made a big, big difference to my life

Sadly, Alex's story is only one of many. Every week, we receive hundreds of calls from older people needing our help, and with a predicted growth in Scotland's ageing population, demand for our services will continue to rise. With your help, we can offer support and a lifeline for more older people like Alex.

Please make a donation today* and help Age Scotland offer friendship to more lonely older people like Alex across Scotland. Thank you.
