Gifts in Wills for Professionals

Why gifts in Wills are vital to our work.
With a predicted growth in Scotland’s ageing population, demand for our services will continue to grow.
As our population continues to age, we predict many more people are likely to need support for longer periods of their lives. So, it’s vital that Age Scotland continue providing a lifeline for older people for many more generations to come. Gifts in Wills, also known as legacies, are essential in enabling us to plan for the future.
Here are a few ways that gifts in Wills support our work
- Help us tackle loneliness and isolation through funding services like our Friendship Service and our work with local community groups that bring older people together.
- Enable us to continue to provide our free Helpline service, providing expert advice on common issues such as energy advice, care, and benefit entitlement.
- Support our health and wellbeing programmes for older people and help them live better later lives.
- Fund training to support the growing number of people living with dementia and their families.
- To support our campaigning on behalf of older people.
A conversation can plant the seed to a lasting legacy.
40% of the UK want to leave a gift to charity in their Will, after taking care of family and friends, but only 6.3% currently do.*
As a trusted professional, you play a key role in helping clients make meaningful decisions about their legacy. If a client wishes to support older people in Scotland, it’s important their Will names Age Scotland specifically.
Age Scotland was formed in 2009 following the merger of Age Concern Scotland and Help the Aged in Scotland. We are the Scottish charity for older people, dedicated to improving later life through expert advice, friendship, dementia support, and campaigning.
While we are part of the wider Age network — alongside Age UK, Age NI and Age Cymru — each is a separate charity. Gifts intended to benefit older people in Scotland must name Age Scotland to ensure they support our work here.

Supporting your clients with planning for later life.
Many people choose to write their Will as part of taking control of their future and ensuring their wishes are known and respected. It can also be an opportunity to reflect on the legacy they want to leave and to make practical plans for themselves and their loved ones.
At Age Scotland, we offer a wide range of free legal and family information guides designed to support your clients through every stage of later life. From planning for future healthcare and power of attorney, to arranging a funeral or understanding care options, our resources can help them make informed decisions with confidence.
You are welcome to share these guides with your clients or contact us to request printed copies.
