Our helpline advisors can carry out a benefit check for you, a confidential assessment to determine whether you may be eligible for additional financial support, such as Pension Age Disability Payment (formerly attendance allowance), housing benefit, or bereavement support.

You can also call the helpline if you'd like help using Age Scotland's Benefit Calculator. Our helpline advisors can arrange for one of our special Benefit Advisors to call you back to discuss your individual needs.

Older people, their family members and carers often have to navigate the complicated care system at an already difficult time. 

Our helpline advisers provide a sympathetic ear and in-depth knowledge of both care at home and residential care, including topics such as how to access a care assessment, funding residential care, carers' allowance, and the rights and support available to unpaid carers.

Our advisers are available to support you with issues such as utility billing problems, replacing a boiler, and smart meters. They can also help keep you safe by providing free Carbon Monoxide alarms and helping you sign up to the Priority Service Registers. 

The helpline can also provide a range of practical support to our most vulnerable callers to keep them warm.

Our helpline advisors support older people whether they are homeowners, rent, or live in supported accommodation.

Our advisers provide information on a range of issues like repairs and disability adaptations, and can signpost to specialist services for any urgent or complex problems.

By calling the helpline, you're able to talk to someone if you're feeling lonely. Our helpline team may also refer you to Age Scotland's Friendship Services and put you in touch with a friendship caller for a regular chat thanks to our Friendship Line.
