The Veteran's Guide to Later Life in Scotland

Veterans are offered extra support and opportunities in recognition of their unique needs and experiences following military service. NHS Boards and councils have duties under the Armed Forces Covenant, the nation’s promise that veterans will be treated fairly. Some benefits are also exclusively available to veterans meeting certain criteria.
Many charities are dedicated to supporting the veteran community, helping them meet the challenges of civilian life they can often face. Services range from tailored advice to emotional and practical support. Whether you are looking for social groups for veterans or support finding housing or employment, there are many organisations that can help.
A large number will consider you a veteran if you served and were paid for even one day in uniform with HM Armed Forces. So if you are aged 60 plus and were a regular or reservist, did National Service or supported a military operation while in the Merchant Navy, this guide is for you.
This Age Scotland guide is part-funded by the Scottish Government through its grant to Unforgotten Forces. Unforgotten Forces is a consortium of Armed Forces and civilian charities working together to deliver high quality and joined-up support that boosts the health and well-being of Scotland’s older veterans, led and coordinated by Age Scotland.
