Free Will Writing Service
Write your Will for free today
As the Scottish charity for older people, Age Scotland provides a free Will service to people living in Scotland who are 50 years or older at the time of writing their Will.
To do this, we’ve partnered with The National Free Wills Network to provide your Will and help you plan for your future. Through this partnership, Age Scotland covers the cost of a basic Will to be written. We hope that, after providing for your loved ones, you might consider leaving a gift in your Will to Age Scotland. While there is no obligation to do so, any gift, no matter the size, can help us continue to be there for older people across Scotland.
How does it work?
- Register your details with The National Free Wills Network using the Free Will Registration Form
- You’ll receive an information pack containing everything you need to get started. This can be posted to you and will arrive within 5 days, or sent to you by email depending on your preference.
- Your pack includes a list of local solicitors who can help you create your Will in person, and a list of solicitors that can provide this service online. You get to choose the solicitor and how you’d like to have your appointment.
- We kindly ask that you contact one of the solicitors within 90 days of you receiving your information pack.
- You complete your simple Will with your chosen solicitor and Age Scotland covers the cost.
Leaving a gift in your Will
We hope you find our free Will service helpful and easy to use. If you choose to leave Age Scotland a gift in your Will, also known as a legacy, you’ll help ensure that no one in Scotland faces the challenges of older age alone.
Legacies directly support our free helpline, friendship service, support for local groups and national campaigning. Together, we can create a Scotland where people can grow older with security, are valued and connected and have a good quality of life.
Important information
- Please note that our free Will writing offer with The National Free Will Network has limited availability and may be withdrawn at any time.
- If your Will is complicated, the solicitor will state this as soon as it becomes apparent and you will have the option to continue if additional fees apply. Age Scotland and the Network always cover the cost of a standard or simple Will.
- If your Will is on behalf of two people, for example you are a couple, you can use this service if your wishes are the same (known as a mirror Will). If your Wills are to be different, you will both need to register for the service separately.
- If you already have a Will and need help creating a Power of Attorney, we work with Scottish legal firm Lindsays, who are happy to discuss your needs. Visit the Lindsays Legal Services page for more information.
