Member Group of the Year 2025
Urram wins Member Group of the Year
An inspirational charity providing vital support to older people on the Ardnamurchan, Ardgour and Morvern peninsulas has won Age Scotland’s Member Group of the Year award.
Formed in 2021, Urram supports the best possible care for the residents of Acharacle, Ardgour, Morvern, Sunart and West Ardnamurchan by working with the community, NHS Highland and other partners.
The group operates a variety of services, including a one-to-one befriending service, a medical transport service and various community lunches, tea and chat groups and craft projects.
Their volunteer-operated transport service has been described as a ‘lifeline’ for over 100 older people who rely on it, as they would otherwise face extreme difficulty travelling to Inverness or Dingwall for vital medical appointments. Last year, the service covered 30,000 miles over 300 journeys, amounting to almost 2,000 volunteer hours.
The group is currently involved in a pilot project experimenting with a local care model - tasked with re-designing how social care is delivered in a remote and rural setting. The aim is for care to be flexible and provided in a way that it is responsive to the needs of Urram’s community.
Louise White, Development Manager at Urram, said:
“Urram are delighted to be recognised as Member Group of the Year. The team and volunteers work so hard in our wee patch of Scotland and easily get caught up in the day to day.
“To have Age Scotland recognise the fantastic job everyone is doing is really encouraging, and helps us remember that ever bit really does help and make a difference!”
