Why monthly donations make the biggest impact
Have you ever wondered why charities are always asking people to become monthly donors? Here we outline just a few of the reasons charities like Age Scotland rely on regular support from donors.
Stability
Regular giving provides Age Scotland with a steady and reliable stream of income that allows us to plan our activities and services for the year ahead as efficiently as possible – all so we can best deliver our mission.
While we know that donations typically peak around the festive season, we need to be there for older people across Scotland all year round.
Having regular supporters means we can invest in long-term projects and secure our services, no matter the time of year.
Future Planning
We want to see a Scotland where no older person faces the challenges of older age alone. That requires change on a large scale.
We know that Scotland’s population is ageing, and by 2047, 44% of the population will be over 50 and eligible for our support.
Age Scotland provides support to older people every day, through our helpline and friendship service, our information and advice guides and support for community groups nationwide. And to make lasting change we also advocate on a policy level to address the root causes of those challenges.
Regular donations allow us to develop sustainable programs focused on lasting change, creating a legacy of impact.
Flexibility
If the Covid-19 pandemic taught us anything, it’s that the unexpected can happen at any time. The pandemic had a disproportionate impact on older people, and demand for Age Scotland’s services hit a record high.
Age Scotland was met with an outpouring of support from donors wanting to help older people in that time. Having a regular source of donations meant we could scale up our services even before new supporters offered to help.
I realised that to make the kind of change I wanted to see, a monthly donation would go much further and make even more of a difference.

Connect deeper with Age Scotland’s cause
We know that people who make single donations to a charity often feel less connected to a cause than those who give on a regular basis. By consistently supporting Age Scotland, you’ll follow along on the journey of impact your money is making. We love to update our donors on what Age Scotland is up to, celebrating the positive impact your donations continue to have on our services.
You’ll feel part of something bigger and see the real difference you’ve made.
Generosity becomes a habit
Committing to regular donations makes giving easier than having to manually donate each time. Setting up a Direct Debit means you never have to remind yourself or make a mental note – it's all taken care of automatically.
Many donors also find that it’s more manageable to support a cause through smaller, consistent contributions instead of a large one-time donation. Over time, those small contributions add up to a significant positive impact on the lives of older people.
