Unforgotten Forces

Female veterans chatting

Unforgotten Forces was a partnership of charities that worked together to support the health and wellbeing of ex-Armed Forces personnel aged 60 and older across Scotland. This archive shares the story of the programme from 2017 to 2026, along with information about the partner organisations that contributed to its delivery and legacy.

The Unforgotten Forces Story

The Unforgotten Forces programme concluded in July 2026 following the end of project funding. Although the consortium is no longer formally coordinated, the connections, partnerships and shared commitment developed through the programme continue.

Over the nine years of its existence, the Unforgotten Forces partnership provided 135,000 incidences of support to 45,000 individual older veterans. When the spouses, carers, and dependents of those veterans are included, Unforgotten Forces supported at least 180,000 members of the Armed Forces Community in Scotland. Age Scotland distributed 30,000 publications to veterans, and the 13 editions of the Unforgotten Forces magazine reached 16,000 readers. Over 25% of the older veterans receiving support were assisted by two or more partners, showing the strength of the collaborative arrangements built by Unforgotten Forces

Unforgotten Forces magazine

The Unforgotten Forces Magazine celebrated the work, partnerships and stories of the Unforgotten Forces programme since 2020. A total of 13 editions were published, with the final Spring 2026 issue marking the conclusion of the programme. Although the project has now come to an end, all digital editions will continue to be available here for readers to access and download.
