Flexible Working for Older Workers
Managers play a crucial role in making flexible working successful.
The way flexibility is implemented can determine whether it supports productivity, inclusion and staff wellbeing, or becomes a source of tension and inconsistency.
- Workers aged 50 and over now make up around 30% of the UK workforce
- Almost a third of retired adults say they would consider returning to work if flexible options were available
- 75% of Scottish workers aged 55+ already work flexibly or would like to.
Flexible working is central to attracting and retaining experienced staff and keeping valuable skills in the workforce.
Our Flexible Working for Managers workshop, delivered in partnership with Flexibility Works, gives managers the tools, confidence and understanding they need to make flexible working a success for both people and the organisation.
Through discussion and practical examples, participants explore how flexibility can look different across roles and sectors, how to design and manage arrangements day to day, and how to address challenges constructively and fairly.
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will:
- Understand their legal responsibilities and the organisational benefits of flexible working
- Learn how to design and manage flexible arrangements that retain talent
- Build confidence in addressing challenges and finding practical solutions
- Recognise the role of flexible working in supporting and retaining older workers
