Why Play the Age Scotland Lottery?

lottery launch 2

4 September 2025

When you play a lottery, you probably fantasise about what you would buy if you won the jackpot - a new car, fancy holiday, designer wardrobe, the list goes on!

For many, the primary reason for playing any lottery is to win money, but buying a ticket for a charity lottery also helps others too. Many participate not only for the potential financial gain but also to support great causes.

Our brand new lottery is a fun and exciting way to support Age Scotland, with weekly prizes ranging from £25 to £25,000, and it only costs £1 to play! Every ticket sold helps us support older people’s community groups across Scotland. By playing our lottery, you will help older people’s groups in your area deliver services and social activities to tackle loneliness and isolation.

Age Scotland supports a national network of over 500 community groups for older people across Scotland. These groups offer a wide range of activities and social events for people aged over 50, strengthening community connections, bringing people together and creating new friendships.

Our community development team travels the country providing tailored support to member groups and potential member groups, delivering talks, offering information and advice, signposting, and connecting them with other parts of the charity.

A diverse programme of local network meetings is organised in different parts of Scotland to bring our members together. Last year we awarded 129 grants to groups worth £108,000, for activities ranging from the purchase of equipment, help with the rising costs of utility bills, member outings, and festive lunches.

Lottery ticket sales will help our community development team keep older people socially connected, support groups struggling due to cost-of-living pressures, and celebrate the contributions our member groups make to the lives of older people in their communities.

Amy from Wing Hong Chinese Elderly Centre, in Glasgow, tells us first-hand the impact our funding has had on their members’ lives.

“The support we've received from Age Scotland has been invaluable to Wing Hong — from dementia awareness training to providing publications in Cantonese for our service users. Their ongoing support truly reflects Age Scotland’s commitment to inclusivity and breaking down barriers.

The funding has directly supported our services, helping us reduce loneliness and isolation among older members of the Chinese community. With their help, we’ve been able to deliver culturally sensitive activities, offer bilingual advice, and create a warm and welcoming environment for those who need it most. Their partnership has made a lasting impact on the lives of our members.”

Players will not just raise funds; they will help change lives and enable us to support even more older people in Scotland.

By playing our lottery, everyone benefits!
