No one should feel unsafe because of who they are
Recent racist attacks have caused distress and fear in communities across Scotland. No one should feel unsafe because of who they are, where they come from, or how they are perceived.
We are deeply concerned about the growing instances of social tension, public unrest, discriminatory activity and rhetoric about race and people’s rights that are being witnessed.
Older people from the minoritised communities we work with and support are sharing their own fears and experiences with us. Many say they feel unsafe in the communities they live in and have become targets for abuse. This cannot be tolerated.
As a society we need to be much more tolerant, understanding and respectful of others. We understand the pain these events have caused and affirm our commitment to all older people in Scotland.
