Take Five to Age Well pack for groups
What is this?
Take Five to Age Well is a resource pack to enable group exploration of healthy ageing topics over a series of 60-90 minutes sessions. The topics are building habits for healthy ageing, eating well, staying hydrated, keeping physically active, stimulating the brain and social connection. It was developed by Age Scotland in collaboration with The Open University.
Who is this for?
The pack is for groups in Scotland that involve people aged 50 and older. For example, health services, care settings, community groups, and colleagues in a workplace.
How do I sign up?
You can request a pack by post via an online form. Please note that someone in your group will need to facilitate each of sessions. The pack includes a Facilitator’s Handbook and handouts that can be photocopied. Our Supporting older people to age well training may also be helpful for facilitating Take Five to Age Well sessions.
The pack has been very good for me as a facilitator. There’s a lot to read, but it’s easy to follow, clear, and engaging." (Laurene Cameron, MS Centre, Mid Argyll)
Strength and balance games for groups
What is this?
Body Boosting Bingo and Power Quiz are fun and social game resources for groups developed by Age Scotland that encourage and enable older people to develop strength and balance, attributes that are vital to health, wellbeing and independence in later life.
Who is it for?
The games resources are designed to be led by paid staff or volunteers who undertake Age Scotland’s Games Leader Training, which is free for groups and services supporting older people in Scotland.
There are multi-media versions of each game, including demonstration videos and music to accompany movements. Basic IT equipment and skills are required (suitable for Windows operating system only). The games can also be played without technology, where led by confident movement demonstrators.
How do I sign up?
To use the games resources, you first need to book a place on one of our Games Leader Training events. Games software and associated resources are provided on completion of the training. We are also happy to discuss bespoke training events for organisations that would like ten or more people trained.
If your organisation operates outside of Scotland and is interested in using our games resources, please email us to discuss commercial licensing options: healthandwellbeing@agescotland.org.uk.
We had a truly brilliant session using your Body Boosting Bingo resource. Utter joy and feel-good factor!" (An older people's group organiser)
The Wellbeing Flower
What is this?
The Wellbeing Flower is an organisational planning tool for community groups and services. With it, your group/service can gain insight into the contribution you make to the healthy ageing of the older people you support and identify ways of building on that contribution. The tool is ideal for a planning 'away day' but may also be used over a series of shorter sessions.
Who is it for?
The Wellbeing Flower is primarily for those in a leadership role within an organisation, for example board and staff members.
How do I sign up?
The Wellbeing Flower requires facilitation, which members of our Health and Wellbeing Team can potentially provide depending on capacity. Please email us to arrange an initial discussion: healthandwellbeing@agescotland.org.uk.
I would absolutely recommend the Wellbeing Flower. We were able to look at our centre from outside in, instead of being in a bubble and just ‘doing’." (An older people's group organiser)
