Bereavement
Coping with bereavement
The death of someone close to you can be one of the hardest things you ever have to go through. It is not something you can be good or bad at. You just have to cope as best you can.
How you deal with death is very personal and there is no formula. However, this guide looks at:
- the practical things that need to be done when someone dies
- how you might be feeling and why
- support available to help you manage your grief
Grieving in your own time
You may not want to read this guide now; you could decide to come back to it at a different time. It can be hard to focus on anything when feelings are so raw, or you may not be feeling anything at all.
When you do feel ready, you may find it helpful to go through it with a bereavement counsellor or with someone close to you.
Cruse Scotland provides bereavement support to anyone in Scotland and can help you find bereavement services in your area. Call them free on 0808 802 6161.
