Don't let power cuts catch you off guard

Register for SP Energy Networks' Priority Services today. Kendal Morris, Customer Service Director at SP Energy Networks writes for Age Scotland.
If you live in Scotland, you know that our weather loves to keep us guessing – sunshine one minute, a downpour the next, no matter the season! That's why it's extremely important to be ready for anything, especially power cuts.
At SP Energy Networks our Priority Services Register (PSR) is here to give a helping hand to those aged 60 and over, making sure you and your loved ones get the support you need if the lights go out.
It’s free to sign up and is available to customers across central and southern Scotland who might need that extra bit of help during power cuts. People with children under the age of five or those who have a chronic illness or mobility issues are also eligible to sign up for support.
By signing up to the PSR, you can benefit from proactive and ongoing contact during known power interruptions and get access to a dedicated welfare line during storms. It doesn’t mean we can restore your power any quicker, but it does mean there’s a helping hand at the end of the phone.
Plus, when registered, you will also have access to tailored help for those living with dementia. This includes personalised advice and recommendations about local support hubs, like dementia cafes, to keep you connected.
You can also access help for carers services through the PSR, helping you juggle your daily life with your caregiving duties.
Information on the PSR can be requested in various formats, including braille, large print and text relay. British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting is also available in partnership with SignLive, ensuring accessibility for those who are hard of hearing or have speech impairments.
Your safety is our top priority, and we’re here to help.
Find out if your eligible for the Priority Services Register today by going to www.spenergynetworks.co.uk/psr.
And if you’re already signed up, let us know if any of your contact details have changed, so we can easily get in touch when we need to.
