Benefit and Pension Changes

Over the past few years, there have been several changes to the social security benefits system in Scotland and across the UK. The Age Scotland Benefit and Pension Changes guide provides information on the latest changes to the benefits system most likely to affect older people.
The devolution of Welfare Powers to the Scottish Government means that Social Security Scotland now pays several types of benefits previously paid by the Department for Work and Pensions. For example, Attendance Allowance has been replaced by Pension Age Disability Payment, and Carer's Allowance has been replaced by Carer Support Payment.
In addition, Universal Credit has replaced many older types of benefit, and there are upcoming changes to State Pension age. Some changes are still in progress, and you may still receive benefits that were part of the older system.
If you are unsure if you are receiving the right benefits for you, you can call the Age Scotland helpline on 0800 12 44 222 and ask for a free benefit check. You can also check your entitlements at www.age.scot/benefitscalculator.
