The importance of hydration

The easiest thing you can do to feel better today is to keep your body hydrated. Our body needs water to carry out all its essential processes. Around 60% of your body is water. If you become dehydrated, you will soon begin to notice the effects.

Why our bodies need water

Water is an essential nutrient and one of the best things you can drink for good hydration. It can help to boost your mental and physical health and well-being.

Being properly hydrated helps your body to:

  • maintain the right temperature
  • regulate blood pressure
  • flush out toxins
  • support your immune system and reduce inflammation
  • digest your food
  • move oxygen and nutrients around your body

The Age Scotland Hydration Matters guide offers information on how to stay hydrated, why it matters and the key signs of dehydration to look out for.
