What is a Benefit Check?

Why get a benefit check?

The Age Scotland information guides provide general information about benefits and social security, but the benefits system is complicated. It may be difficult to know which benefits to claim in your specific situation.

Some benefits ‘overlap’, meaning claiming one can affect entitlement to another. For example, claiming a carer benefit may affect how much the person you care for can claim in disability-related benefits.

A free benefit check with one of our friendly expert advisers can help you make sure you are not missing out. They will look at your circumstances to work out which benefits you could be entitled to, how much you could get, and which combination of benefits will give you the best outcome.

What happens in a benefit check?

You will need to tell a benefits adviser the details of your circumstances, including your income, any savings or capital you have, your living situation and certain expenses. These details will be treated as confidential; we won’t give your information to anyone else.

The Age Scotland What is a Benefit Check? guide provides details of the information you will need to provide. You should gather this together before you start the process.

To book a benefit check with one of our advisers, call the Age Scotland helpline on 0800 12 44 222. You can also check your entitlements using our online Benefit Calculator.
